This video is showing my AS documentary. After researching the different things included in a documentary, this is showing some of the different codes and conventions. Some of these being graphics, a presenter and interviews.
When beginning to look at the codes and conventions of documentaries i watched the two documentaries featured above. The first one 'In the teeth of jaws' and the second 'The Simpson's 20th Anniversary Special In 3d On Ice'. The two programmes immediately show contrast by just reading the title, the first one suggesting a more serious theme whilst The Simpsons is a children's programme, it gives more of an informal feel. By watching these it enabled me to discover the different features in a documentary and how they can differ from each other. Also it showed me how to keep the audience interested by changing things throughout.
When considering the person being interviewed, the positioning of the person in each documentary is assigned to either the left or right, never central. This is showing a key theme throughout which suggested to me an idea for more understatement on documentaries. The filming of the person is also a mid shot, this showing that the focus is on the person and what they have to say, rather than their bodies or their faces in particular. Taking into consideration the eye line of the interviewees, they never directly look at the camera. This is showing a familiar pattern throughout and shows the importance of the person asking the questions.
By watching these documentaries, it showed my how different types can be created and the topic of the documentary can vary and can have a serious topic, however it could also have a humorous topic, as long as it is based on fact.
